The Waymo Safety team works to promote and help to continuously improve the safety of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our experts develop safety goals and strategies, and conduct safety engineering analyses to ensure safety is being considered throughout the design and development of our vehicles. The team develops and promotes safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles for its work with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, law enforcement and public and non-profit organizations. Our Safety Team also helps advise on compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.

 

In this remote role, you will be based in an approved location and report to our Head of Safety Management and Best Practices.

 

You will:

  • Support the continuous improvement and refinement of Waymo's Safety Case, inclusive of its claims, evidence library, and argumentation, upholding high standards in both documentation management practices and commitment to continuous improvement of Waymo's safety processes.
  • Safety Evidence Management: Establish and manage the evidence library for Waymo's safety case, inclusive of its categorization, updating, and tracing to internal methodology, readiness reviews, performance dashboards, training programs, and more.
  • Change Management & System Migration: Plan and organize change management practices across the safety case, including the deprecation or freezing of evidence and change impact of any safety case claims.
  • Automation Development: Research and implement automation solutions for various aspects of the safety case, especially within the JIRA platform and within other document management tooling used internally.
  • Content Integration Support: Contribute to integrating new content in Waymo's safety case in a cohesive and consistent manner, collaborating as needed with external consultants, partners, and auditors.
  • Collaborate with the Standardization Compliance Lead and other Waymo stakeholders to support a consistent operational tooling for industry standards compliance exercises.

 

You have:

  • Demonstrated experience in tooling, operationalization, and process improvement in connection with requirements and documentation management, ideally within a technical or safety-critical domain.
  • Proficiency with JIRA and potentially G3, with experience in managing complex data structures and linkages. JAVAScript and HTML basic knowledge to support automatization and querying functions within such tools.
  • Experience supporting documentation, evidence collection, and automation initiatives within the context of an Automated Driving System safety case, inclusive of familiarity with the claim-argument-evidence structure.
  • Ability to work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) across a broad range of divisions: from technical engineering, to product, data science, as well as legal/regulatory teams.

We prefer:

  • Familiarity with Waymo's publications and approach to safety is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with the AVSC work of SAE ITC is highly desirable
  • Auditing Certification
  • Participation into standardization activities for the drafting and/or revisions of automotive industry standards.
  • Track-record of contributions to published scholarly literature

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements. 

Salary Range
$158,000—$200,000 USD
