Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo's cars may be self-driving, but our security program is steered by experts like you. Safety is our foundation and is at the heart of everything we do. As a Security Investigator, you will lead complex and sensitive internal investigations that protect Waymo’s people, property, and physical assets.

In this role, you will serve as a neutral, objective fact-finder, navigating issues ranging from Code of Conduct violations and physical security breaches to complex property theft and workplace violence incidents. Working in close partnership with Legal, HR, and Safety, you will ensure every investigation is conducted with the highest degree of integrity, resilience, and professional rigor, while maintaining strict compliance with jurisdictional requirements like California SB 553.

This role will be hybrid in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area. This role reports to the Head of Security Operations Center.

You will:

  • Manage the Investigative Lifecycle: Lead end-to-end, objective investigations into reported security incidents, policy violations, and physical threats, including the development of comprehensive investigative strategies and resource allocation
  • Lead Workplace Violence Prevention: Manage investigations into reported threats or acts of workplace violence, ensuring all actions are documented and executed in compliance with California SB 553 and other relevant safety legislation
  • Conduct Professional Investigative Interviews: Gather accurate and actionable information through professional interviews with witnesses, complainants, and subjects using established techniques
  • Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate seamlessly with HR, Legal, and Safety to ensure investigative findings are handled according to Waymo’s standards and employment law
  • Produce Professional Investigative Documentation: Draft comprehensive investigative reports that are clear, concise, and ready for review by legal counsel and relevant stakeholders
  • Analyze Trends for Improvement: Analyze investigative data to identify root causes of incidents and recommend practical process improvements to senior leadership

You have:

  • 6+ years of professional experience in investigations, preferably within a corporate security, law enforcement, or specialized investigative agency
  • Specific experience managing Workplace Violence cases, including threat assessment and compliance with workplace safety laws (e.g., CA SB 553)
  • Proven experience conducting complex internal investigations within a large, matrixed organization
  • Demonstrated expertise in professional interviewing techniques (e.g., Wicklander-Zulawski or Reid)
  • Exceptional written communication skills with experience drafting formal reports for legal or executive audiences
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to handle highly sensitive and emotional situations with absolute confidentiality and objectivity

We prefer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law, or a related field
  • Experience in large-scale manufacturing, logistics, or industrial environments where physical asset protection is a primary focus
  • Advanced familiarity with investigative case management software and WPV incident logging requirements
Professional certifications such as PCI (Professional Certified Investigator)
  • Experience testifying in legal proceedings or presenting findings in a formal hearing environment

Travel requirements:

  • Up to 10%
