Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

As part of Waymo's Legal team, you will work on the exciting legal issues surrounding our transformational autonomous driving technology and help drive our business lines forward from technology ideation through scaled commercial deployment. We partner with our public policy, safety, security and privacy experts to define transportation policy for the autonomous driving world to come, advising on regulatory changes that support and protect our users around the world. We collaborate with our engineering, product, strategy and operations teams to develop and protect our intellectual property portfolio and drive our corporate and commercial transactions. We ensure compliance with an increasingly complex and dynamic range of global regulations. And we anticipate, mitigate, and litigate high-profile and precedent-setting legal matters.

In this hybrid role, you will report into our Sr. Program Manager, Regulatory Compliance.

You will:

  • Work independently and as part of a team focused on external data reporting to state, federal, and international AV regulators, on ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting programs
  • Intake new or updated regulatory rules focused on reporting, and work with Legal, Product, Engineering, and TPgM teams to establish policies and procedures to operationalize requirements
  • Assist in the management, collection, quality controls, submission, and tooling for reportable data
  • Support ad hoc projects to respond to regulator requests for data
  • Analyze and communicate identified trends, gaps, predictions, and opportunities for process improvement
  • Create and maintain documentation related to regulatory reporting

You have:

  • At least 4 years experience working on an external reporting program, preferably at a safety-focused, highly-regulated organization. It will be imperative to understand the risks associated with poor regulatory reporting, can speak to and help build learned best practices, and can effectively help create documentation associated with such a program.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, both in written and verbal communication
  • Technical aptitude with ability to quickly learn proprietary software
  • Analytical background with the ability to find data sources, analyze findings, and present facts and trends, as well as gapfind or issue-spot processes
  • Demonstrable ability to conceptualize turning repetitive tasks into automated workflows
  • Highly collaborative, creative, and action-oriented problem solving skills

We prefer:

  • Experience assembling and submitting regulatory reports to regulators
  • Ability to perform both manual, tedious tasks, and to own the conceptualization and operationalization of new processes that improve and/or close gaps in existing flows
  • Demonstrably strong project and program management skills while working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • High EQ with personally responsible, team player mentality
  • Experience managing external partners or vendors
  • Experience with Jira a plus
