Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

The Waymo Enterprise Resilience team ensures that Waymo is prepared to anticipate, navigate, respond to, and recover from complex operational challenges and real-world incidents. Our team of experts focus on Incident Readiness and Business Continuity, developing the frameworks and response strategies that protect our people, our technology, and the communities where we operate.

The team designs and scales proactive outreach programs and technical training for First Responders and Public Safety officials, ensuring that the "Source of Truth" for autonomous vehicle interaction is clear, credible, and standardized. By bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology and field-level emergency response, the team builds the trust and operational protocols necessary to uphold the highest standards of safety in even the most complex environments.

In hybrid role you will report into our Head of Resilience and Incident Management.

You will:

  • Drive the strategic vision and operational excellence of the Public Safety Outreach program, ensuring alignment with Waymo’s expansion goals.
  • Manage and optimize a vendor-based team of First Responder Ambassadors, overseeing their deployment and performance to ensure consistent, high-impact engagement in all markets.
  • Scale the certification and quality assurance process for the Ambassador program, ensuring that all outreach and training materials remain technically accurate and culturally resonant.
  • Establish a data-driven framework to measure training effectiveness, translating field engagement into metrics that demonstrate the program’s impact on market readiness and public trust.
  • Oversee the strategic roadmap for industry event participation, directing the Ambassador team’s presence at national and regional conferences.
  • Develop scalable program playbooks and internal policies that streamline how Waymo communicates with public safety officials, increasing efficiency as the company enters new jurisdictions.

You have:

  • 10+ years of experience in Public Safety or Emergency Management, with a proven track record in program oversight, strategic operations, or specialized training units.
  • Extensive experience in vendor or people management, with the ability to lead external teams to deliver high-stakes educational programs and outreach.
  • Deep knowledge of US first responder and public safety protocols (ICS/NIMS) and the ability to design programmatic solutions that integrate AV technology into established emergency workflows.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a focus on "translating" program success into compelling narratives and data for executive-level internal stakeholders.
  • Strong cultural competence within the Public Safety sector, ensuring that vendor-led messaging is authentic, credible, and effective at building long-term trust.
  • A collaborative approach to risk management, partnering with Legal, Product, and Policy teams to ensure program compliance and operational safety.

We prefer:

  • 5+ years in a leadership role overseeing large-scale training or outreach initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience scaling programs efficiently across diverse geographic landscapes and varying regulatory environments.
  • Strong technical literacy regarding autonomous vehicle systems and their intersection with national roadway safety standards (e.g., NFPA, NHTSA, or SAE).
  • A track record of developing metrics that prove the ROI of safety outreach, specifically in reducing operational friction in new markets.
  • Advanced skills in identifying operational training gaps and pivoting program strategy based on real-world feedback from the field.
  • Experience working in a high-growth technology environment where speed, efficiency, and scalability are critical to program success.

Travel Requirements / On-Call Component:

  • ~20% travel (Domestic & International)
  • Willingness and ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for incident management purposes
