Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

In this hybrid role, you will report to a UK Ops Lead

You will:

  • Rider Experience & Multimodal Integration: Monitor, mitigate, and respond to service quality issues. Optimize demand matching around major demand clusters to position Waymo as a seamless first/last-mile transit partner.

  • Strategic Pre-positioning & Congestion Zones: Utilize internal systems and forecasting tools to oversee fleet staging, ensuring vehicles are positioned to meet real-time rider demand and minimize wait times across diverse territories..
  • PUDO Performance & Red Routes: Own the end-to-end Pickup and Drop-off experience. Analyze performance data to eliminate friction points at complex curbsides, ensuring strict compliance with London's "Red Routes", bus lanes, and borough-specific parking restrictions.

  • High-Traffic Event Management: Lead operational planning for high-profile UK events (e.g., premier football matches, concerts at Wembley/O2 Arena, Wimbledon), creating specialized staging and pickup-drop-off strategies that respect local council mandates.
  • Borough & Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with internal teams (Product, Public Affairs, Mapping) to translate the physical reality of London's diverse boroughs into technical product capabilities.

  • Community Integration & Risk Mitigation: Partner with Marketing and Public Affairs to build trusted relationships with TfL, local emergency services, and community groups, proactively de-risking operational friction.

You have:

  • Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years of experience in operations management, urban planning, consulting, or logistics, with a focus on demand-side optimization or fleet management.

  • Urban Complexity: Proven track record of managing operations across highly regulated, high-density urban environments or European metropolitan markets.
  • Stakeholder Navigation: Exceptional ability to negotiate, consult, and build consensus with rigid regulatory frameworks, municipal bodies (like TfL), or local council stakeholders.

  • Analytical Proficiency: Strong ability to leverage data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker) and data signals to drive localized operational outcomes.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the clarity required to bridge technical engineering capabilities with public-sector requirements.

  • Safety-First, Local-First Philosophy: A steadfast commitment to safety-centric fleet orchestration that prioritizes the unique safety profiles of London pedestrians, cyclists, and iconic black cabs.

We prefer:

  • UK/London Market Expertise: Deep understanding of London’s transit ecosystem, traffic management acts, and micro-mobility trends.

  • Industry Background: Experience in Ride-sharing, Autonomous Vehicles (AV), or high-growth TNC/logistics industries operating within the UK.
  • Urban Diplomacy & Public Policy: Background in urban design, transit planning, or public affairs with a focus on mitigating community impact in historic or space-constrained cities.

  • Large-Scale Event Logistics: Proven ability to manage high-stakes transport logistics for major city-wide events or high-capacity venues.
  • Data Analytics Mastery: Advanced proficiency in SQL and spatial data analysis to monitor market health and map complex demand patterns.

Travel requirement:

  • 15-30% of the time
